Learn How to Pack for Fall Travel

Autumn weather can be unpredictable… chilly one minute and sweltering the next. This makes packing for fall travel a bit more difficult than, say, going to the beach in July. The trick is to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

Swipe through to learn what you should definitely pack for your fall vacation.

Layers

Plan by packing easily added and removed clothing items that allow you to adjust to the fluctuating temps. Open-button shirts, lightweight cardigans and hoodies are good examples of layers you can add and remove as necessary. If you’re bringing skirts, add tights to your packing list; you can wear or not wear them as the weather requires.

Rain gear

Be sure to pack a foldable umbrella and also bring a lightweight rain jacket that has plenty of pockets. Waterproof shoes might be a good idea, too.

Scarf

Bring a mid-weight scarf that you can easily put on and take off as the weather changes. You don’t need one of Grandma’s heavy-duty knitted numbers; a cotton scarf that collapses down pretty small when not in use should work just fine.

Light jacket

Depending on where you’re visiting, a lightweight jacket might be a good idea to bring along, too. Used in combination with a hoodie or sweater, it may offer just the right amount of protection.

Sunglasses

Autumn skies can be bright and sunny, so don’t forget to pack sunglasses. You might even want to pack a couple pairs, just in case you lose one.

Hats`

You might be wise to pack a couple of hats. A bucket hat or ball cap may be all that is needed during the day, but a beanie might come in handy after the sun goes down.

Backpack

You may be wondering what to do with your layers, scarves and rain gear and when it’s still warm and dry. For these items bring along a medium-sized, lightweight backpack that you can stuff your unneeded layers into.
