The Jordan I sneaker, i.e. the original Air Jordan, was released during Jordan's rookie season. Jordan averaged 28.2 points per game and won Rookie of Year honors, but the Chicago Bulls lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Michael Jordan helped the Chicago Bulls win the first of three consecutive NBA titles while wearing the Jordan VI. Originally released in 1991, the sneakers also gained a bit of pop culture lore when they were featured in the 1992 film "White Men Can't Jump."
Jordan averaged 32.6 points per game the season these sneakers were released, and the Chicago Bulls won their second consecutive NBA championship. He also wore this specific colorway in the music video for Michael Jackson's 1991 hit, "Jam."
The last Air Jordan released before Michael retired for the first time in 1993.
Jordan wore this model on his way toward helping the Bulls win the 1995-1996 championship. He also wore them competing against the Monstars in the 1996 film "Space Jam."
Fans of NBA classic films will recognize the Jordan XII from Michael's legendary "flu game" in the 1997 NBA playoffs. The recent ESPN documentary "The Last Dance" called attention to the fact that Jordan was actually suffering from food poisoning — not the flu — when he played 44 minutes and scored 38 points in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz.
Released in 1997, the Air Jordan XIII was worn by Denzel Washington's character in the film "He Got Game." Interestingly, Ray Allen, who played Jesus Shuttleworth in the film, was wearing the sneaker in real life when he broke the all-time record for made 3-point shots in a game in 2011.
