Some TikTokers swear that rubbing the inside of a banana peel on your skin will hydrate it and make it look younger and fresher. While the science on this isn’t quite definitive, banana peels are rich in antioxidants, and aside from your face feeling a bit sticky for 15 minutes, what’s the harm in trying it out?
To reduce inflammation and calm irritated skin, brew some chamomile tea, then pour it into an ice tray to freeze. Then gently rub the cubes over your freshly cleansed face. The ice constricts blood vessels, decreasing puffiness, and chamomile has long been used as a treatment for skin dryness, irritation and wound healing.
Some folks swear by a combination of honey and cinnamon to treat acne. Honey has strong antibacterial properties and may reduce inflammation. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and wound-healing properties. Mix 3 tablespoons of Manuka honey with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and apply to trouble spots before bedtime. Rinse it off in the morning.
For relief from eczema and psoriasis, take an oatmeal bath. Use colloidal oatmeal, which is powdered oat kernels, because it dissolves in water. Have a nice 15-20 minute soak before rinsing off.
If you’re plagued by dark circles and puffiness under your eyes, consider placing chilled potato slices on your eyes. Raw potato contains the enzyme catecholase, which can even out skin tone.
To remove impurities from your skin’s pores, use egg whites. Apply a thin layer of egg white to your nose. Place a tissue over the egg white, and then apply another layer of egg white. Let it dry, and then peel it off to clear your pores.
Make a nourishing face mask by combining 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt with 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Turmeric is known for treating inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and acne, while yogurt has scientifically proven moisturizing effects.
