6 Kitchen Cabinet Colors that Are Outdated

Home design trends come and go. And it’s perfectly ok to not give a whit about what any experts say about what’s in style and what’s out of style. But if trends matter to you or you’re getting ready to put your house on the market, it might make sense to pay attention to what’s hot and what’s not.

Swipe through to learn about kitchen cabinet colors that are outdated.

Stark White

Bright white was the rage for a bit, in part because it makes a space feel larger and more open. But consider trying a warmer, softer white to add more depth and make the space more welcoming.

Cherry Red Wood

Wood cabinets were often stained a cherry red color back in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, but that look is long expired. They paired nicely with granite countertops, but since those aren't in style either, it's best to swap them out.

Navy Blue

If you’re trying a nautical theme in your home, navy blue might be appropriate. Otherwise, experts say lighter blues, such as robin’s egg, might be a better choice these days.

Mint Green

This hue had its brief moment in the sun, but it’s over now. If green’s your jam, consider forest green or olive green, but mint is out.

Honey Oak Wood

Back in the day, dark blond oak cabinets offered a warm and homey feeling. Now they just feel out of date. If these are your cabinets, consider painting them. Warm, neutral colors are big right now, as is black.

Red

Yep, vibrant red cabinets were a thing, for a short time in 2023 and 2024. Red can be jarring and harsh. If you love red, by all means, add it to your kitchen with accessories and other touches, but not on something with as much surface area as the cabinets.
