Sept. 10 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged positive sentiments on social media ahead of trade talks.
"I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations," Trump posted to Truth Social Tuesday. "I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks."
"India and the U.S. are close friends and natural partners," Modi posted to X Tuesday. "I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-U.S. partnership."
"I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump," he added. "We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people."
However, things did not sound as positive last week or the week before.
"Looks like we've lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China," Trump posted Friday, along with an image of Modi walking with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. "May they have a long and prosperous future together!"
The Trump administration also launched 50% tariffs on imports from India in late August, due to India's continued purchase of Russian oil.
