New Hampshire and Maine
Straddling two states, the White Mountains are spectacular year ‘round, but especially in autumn when the leaves of black gum, dogwood, oak, hickory, aspen and poplar trees display brilliantly hues before drifting down to carpet the forest floor. Take a short hike to the top of Mt. Washington, New England’s tallest peak, for a 360-degree view.

Adams, Massachusetts
Stop in the charming town of Adams in northwest Massachusetts for fun shopping and delicious dining. Then enjoy a drive up Mt. Greylock, where you’ll want to take in the Veterans War Memorial Tower as well as the multiple brilliant hues of the oak, hickory, aspen and beech trees.

Maine
While in Maine, don’t miss Acadia National Park. One of the most-visited parks in the United States, every one of its 50,000 acres is spectacular year-round, but especially during autumn. The leaves of balsam poplar and aspen turn brilliant red, orange and yellow, with October generally being the peak viewing month.

Connecticut
Feel the mist on your face as water cascades 250 feet down spectacular falls just beyond a picturesque covered bridge. The brilliant reds and golds of the fall foliage makes the scene even more breathtaking. Have a picnic or try your luck at fishing while you’re at the park.

Vermont
Much of Vermont puts on a gorgeous show in autumn. The Green Mountains, in the northern part of the state, are a terrific place to see the colors on full display, as the maple trees prepare to shed their leaves for winter. Consider stopping for souvenirs and tasty food in Waterbury, Stowe, Morristown or Hyde Park.
