The 205mph SUV from Lamborghini

Initially a concept car unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012, the 205mph Lamborghini Urus is now available to take home - if you can afford it (pricing starts at $200,000). The name comes from the name of the wild ancestors of domestic cattle, also known as aurochs.

Instead of using Lamborghini's hallmark naturally aspirated V10 or V12 engines, the Urus will be outfitted with a newly developed 4.0L twin-turbo V8. Lamborghini claims this engine is solely used by Lamborghini, eschewing the idea it is simply a retuned version of Audi's 4.0L V8 that is used across the Audi lineup, and shared with Bentley in their new Bentayga SUV, Continental V8 coupe and Flying Spur V8 sedan. It's projected to generate a whopping 600 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.

“For the first time we will have a turbo engine inside – we will have a V8,” he explained. “But the Urus will still be a super sports car among the SUVs. It will be the most powerful, the fastest, but also one that is easy to drive and handle," said CEO Stephan Winkelmann. He went to add on that there are no plans to change Lamborghini's noted supercars from their V10 and V12 naturally aspirated engines.

A Lightweight Rocket

Part of its 205mph top speed is due to the Urus' extensive usage of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, although it's based on the same platform as the Audi Q7, Bentley EXP 9 F, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg.

Winkelmann stated, “you will immediately recognise that it cannot be anything else than a Lamborghini. It is changing [from the concept car] but for the better. It has to be a daily usable car that can get you comfortably from A to B, yet it has to have a lot of power in terms of acceleration and also top speed.” Given it's rumored price will be in the $200,000 range, they'll be no arguing with that. The Urus is planned to be available in limited quantities in 2018.
